Zimmer marketed its Durom Cup (Duram Acetabular Component is a monoblock cup) as revolutionary device because it was made of cobal chromium alloy, which is made from a single piece of material. It is designed for use in combination with Zimmer’s Metasul Metal-on-Metal Tribological Solution LDH (Large Diameter Heads). The device could be made thinner and more comfortable for the younger and more active patient.
Zimmer received FDA approval for the Durom Cup in 2006 for use during total hip replacement, or total hip arthroplasty. The Zimmer Durom Cup has been used in approximately 13,000 patients. The device sold in the United States is different that the version sold in Europe and the rest of the world.
If you or a loved one had hip replacement surgery that used a Zimmer Durom Cup, you may be entitled to compensation.
